York, UK

Saturday February 28th

I arrived in the UK on the 21st. I'll be up in York for at the very least another week, and then back to the London area to wait for the flight back to Thailand.

Today's trip to PC World was fun, I found a new webcam, Logitech QuickCam Sphere, which does a motorised pan and tilt to face where the user wants. I have it tracking my face now, they need to improve the software but it works quite well so long as the person moves slowly. It reminds me of my robot-making days at school, things have come full-circle. I should also have bought a wireless mouse, when travelling even one less cable can make things a lot easier. DVD writers and blank DVDs are also a lot cheaper now.

The Psychic Museum work is going well, plenty of webcams and video work, luckily mostly variations on what we have already done before, as it is always using new technology that takes up most of the time. However I have invented a webcam-readable badge code that I think we might use for all the visitors. I'll show you that once we are using it publicly, this site is already being found by people looking on Google for the museum! The new project manager already knew who I was the same way before Jonathan told him about me.

Byron, the new manager, has been showing us the great video/audio connection you can now easily set up on the internet. And it doesn't even need broadband to work well he says. Full screen video of his family house in America with them looking and talking with us here, all over the internet. It works much better than you'd think. An exciting new connection to Thailand will be coming your way soon...

I'm sleeping out in a large camper van, but warm enough in the snowy cold, and even an improvement on the converted garage I lived in in London. In fact I am working there now as my old and very travelled notebook computer requires a very narrow temperature range to be happy, just what I get here. £1000 is a lot to spend on a replacement, you can build a new house for that in Thailand.
